Roadside scam alert

PEOPLE in Dumfries and Galloway have been alerted to scammers posing as wealthy tourists.

This week police have received multiple reports of males flagging motorists down and claiming they’ve run out of fuel.

Once stopped, people have been asked for cash or money to be transferred to an account.

And if refused, the fraudsters have reportedly stood in front of cars to stop them from driving off.

Police said the men are “well dressed, very convincing and persistent” and usually drive “luxury cars” with German licence plates.

Anyone who observes this behaviour is urged not to engage and call the police on 101 – or in an emergency, 999.
