Return of tree orders

DUMFRIESSHIRE residents can now request legal protection for local trees.

The motion was first introduced by Councillor Ben Dasher, who this week said: “I’m pleased that finally, four years down the line, officers have implemented the council decision as put forward by myself.

“Now, anyone in Dumfries and Galloway can again request the consideration of a tree preservation order, as it should be.”

He explained that the service was halted due to planning department capacities and priorities.

Those seeking to report the protection of a tree can do so by e-mailing: [email protected] and include: a map or clear description of the location, photographs of the tree, why you think it should be protected, and details of any immediate threat to the tree.

Dumfries and Galloway Council say that requests are based on risk, so it may take time before the tree is assessed.
