THE first ever Champions of Champions event was held at the Dumfries Show. The event – sponsored by the NFU – was a welcomed addition to the show card where the champions of the beef, sheep, horse, Clydesdale and goat sec- tions went head-to-head to find out the inaugural winner. All six judges selected the Beef Shorthorn champion as the supreme on the day. The judges revealed their scores in a Strictly Come Dancing style which brought oohs and ahs from the packed crowd. The Beef inter-breed and Beef Short- horn champion Millerston Irania Rainbow was crowned as the first ever supreme winner and farmer Mary Cormack – who with her team was on the road for nine hours from Devon to take part in the show – said: “What a way to finish the show year. The team are all fantastic and all the hard work has paid off. “I’ve never been involved in some- thing quite like this but it was ex- citing. I was trying to add up all the judges scores in my head so we knew we had a chance. “It’s a great idea to get all the champions involved together.” Show chairman William Purdie said: “The Champions of Champions event was very well received. There was a big crowd around the main ring during the event. “It was a spectacle with the Strictly Come Dancing style judging. “It went very well and we have a worthy champion.”
