Prizes ahoy for sailors

A MIDWINTER gathering and prize presentation was held by Annandale Sailing Club last weekend.

Members and friends gathered in the clubhouse in Lochmaben to celebrate the highlights of the 2023 sailing season.

A very special new trophy, hand crafted from wood and glass by club member Louise Allan, was presented this year to the most improved junior sailor in memory of Alistair Johnstone, a valued member of the club and committee, who died last year.

His granddaughter Breagh gave a touching speech about her grandfather and the qualities and values he stood for.

The trophy was awarded to Thomas McKendrick who also won the Junior Club Championship.

The overall club championship was awarded to Guy Wheeler and Elaine Ross, with David Richardson second and Richard Bryant third.

Guy and Elaine, sailing their two-man Graduate dinghy, also won the Spring Handicap, Beveridge Jug Regatta and Burnswark Handicap while Guy, alone in his single handed Streaker dinghy, won the Early Bird series, Castle Loch Shield Regatta, Vendace Handicap, Summer Regatta, Autumn Handicap and RNLI Regatta.

Richard Bryant won the May Regatta, Summer Handicap and September Regatta and Trudie Mitchell won the Commodore’s Cup and the Winter Cup.

The Enthusiast’s Trophy for volunteering went to Ally Brown and the Capsize Cup for most improved adult sailor was awarded to Mike Adlen.
