Pop up cinema plan

A FORMER drill hall in Dumfries has been unveiled as the new home of a pop-up cinema.

Big Burns Supper will hold regular movie screenings in the Loreburn Hall over an 11-month test period.

The ‘sofa-cinema’ will open on April 11 showing Sing 2 and Encanto, and The Nan Movie, Sonic 2, Phantom of the Open and Ambulance will be run later in the month.

There is capacity for 80 people, and audiences can enjoy alcoholic beverages.

Head of operations at Big Burns Supper Allison McLellan said: “We are excited to be bringing the Loreburn Hall back to public use, and our new pop-up cinema project will help give our community access to even more culture on top of rescheduled festival events that now take place throughout the year.

“Our volunteers have worked for six months getting the hall ready and we cannot wait to show Dumfries what we have been working on.

“This has been a passion project by our community, for our community.”
