POPULAR Gretna Green piper Alan Marshall had a special day of his own this week as he celebrated 60 years at the marriage mecca. He learned his trade as a youngster from older brother Billy and took over piping for couples and visitors after his death in 1999. Alan said: “It’s been a lifetime really. It means a lot to me, a lot of happy memories. There’s not another job like it. I’ve had some great times, met some good friends.”
