Period project in fifth year

FREE period poverty products continue to be widely available in Dumfries and Galloway.

It’s five years since the council first made sanitary products free in schools and education and youth work centres locally, as well as through the post.

And the scheme continues to run after councillors reaffirmed their commitment to it.

As well as items being made available in toilet cubicles, monthly home deliveries can be arranged.

The aim is to ensure that that no one suffers in anyway through not having enough income to purchase these essential products.

There is no age limit and residents, as well as those that work and are visiting the area, can all benefit.

Commenting recently, Councillor Archie Dryburgh said: “We realise that the current Cost of Living Crisis is impacting on so many families and this project is providing support with no stigma straight to the home addresses of those most in need.”

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government, working with Hey Girls, have produced an app called PickUpMyPeriod, so anyone can find free products in Scotland. It is available for download on Android and Apple devices.
