One sleep til show day
FINGERS are crossed in Langholm that the weather will stay dry for show day tomorrow. As the last agricultural show of the season, the team are used to changeable weather and they hope this year’s wet forecast will prove wrong. Nonetheless, the preparations have continued at pace on the Castleholm all this week, with the showground now almost ready to welcome exhibitors and visitors. Commenting on what everyone can expect, chairwoman Aileen Cavers said: “I’m looking forward to the show. Livestock entries are ok and horse entries are particularly good this year. We have Working Hunters which we have not had for quite a few years so there will be lots of jumping for folk to watch. “Industrial entries are good too with 1045 entries to date, plus around 400 will come from the school.” She also revealed there’s some new attractions for this year, such as laser clay shooting and archery, as well as the return of the horse logging, Steel Bonnets, Cumberland wrestling and thesheaf tossing contest. There’s trade stands, hospitality, a craft tent and children’s attractions too. Aileen added: “I’m looking forward to all the excited children in the tent on show morning. “We have laser clay shooting and archery which folk can have a go at for a small charge. “I’m looking forward to judging the longest nettle and biggest docken leaf classes too. Come along and enjoy a great day out.” Above: setting up the showfield this week
