GET on your bike this summer, that’s the message from one of the region’s MSPs.

Emma Harper made the call after attending the open day for Let’s Get Biking D&G, supported by Cycling UK, at the King George V Playfield in Dumfries. The newly formed charity is based at the Bridge Education Campus in Dumfries and provides safe cycling opportunities for people of all ages and for those with additional support needs.

Ms Harper said: “Let’s Get Biking D&G have already carried out great work in their short time as a charity in encouraging people across Dumfries and Galloway – regardless of their ability, age and circumstances – to give cycling a try. “I would like to encourage everyone to give biking a try. It has benefits to both a person’s physical and mental health.”

A charity spokesman added: “Thanks to the generosity of family, friends, local groups, local businesses and national organisations, we are up and running! We sincerely hope that we can meet the biking needs of the individuals and families that came along so that everyone can be included, have fun and benefit from cycling.”
