Next PM must listen to farmers, says MSP
REACTION has been rippling across the region today after the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer.
Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has released a statement, saying: “I wish Keir Starmer and his family well for the future. Politics undoubtedly takes a toll on your home life and he sacrificed a lot to become Prime Minister.
“However, for our farmers and rural communities he will go down as the Prime Minister who gave his full support to the hated family farm tax.
“His extremely belated U-turn simply did not go far enough and his changes to this tax are still having a devastating impact on the future of family farming across the UK."
Mr Carson, who is the Scottish Conservative rural affairs and environment spokesman, called on the next Labour Prime Minister to listen to farmers rather than imposing policies on them that don’t work, adding: “Scotland’s farmers are being betrayed by both the SNP and Labour governments and have little faith that any change in who occupies 10 Downing Street will make things more positive for them.”
