New support group

WOMEN throughout the region who have been affected by abnormal cervical cancer screening results or cervical cancer itself are being invited to a new local support group this weekend.

The first meeting of the group takes place in Annan on Saturday morning.

Organiser Louise Ross, who lives in Annan, is keen to reach out to others in Dumfries and Galloway who have been affected. She said: “Have you had an abnormal cervical cancer screening test result, a colposcopy investigation or a diagnosis of cervical cancer? Have you found it difficult to find someone to talk about your circumstances? Would you feel better to talk to other women who have found themselves in similar situations, then why not join our support group to discuss any difficulties and issues you may have with women who have gone through the same and similar situations.”

Mum-of-two Louise, who herself underwent treatment for cervical cancer last year, also wants to welcome anyone worried about going for their smear test. She added: “No judgement, no pressure, just support from a group of women who want to be there for each other through good times and bad.

“If you know someone who has had a diagnosis or is just reluctant to go for their cervical screening test and you think this group may help them, please point them in our direction.”

Monthly meetings will be held in the Corner House Hotel at Annan on the last Saturday of every month at 11 am. To find out more, go to www.facebook.com/events/913201555718619.
