New summer date for Big Burns Supper

ORGANISERS of the Big Burns Supper (BBS) this week announced the event’s postponement.

It was meant to take place in Dumfries from January 14-30 but due to covid, has now been rescheduled for June instead.

However, a virtual event will be broadcast on Burns Night and the team are planning to host a summer edition of the festival instead in June in the Loreburn Hall.

In a statement, they said: “We regret to inform you that the spread of the most recent covid variant means we have had to make the very difficult decision to postpone the festival.

“The majority of our shows will be rescheduled, where possible and customers will be offered the chance to exchange their tickets or ask for a refund.

“We take the responsibility of public health and safety seriously, and despite the obvious benefits the festival brings to our well-being, it would be impossible for us to deliver an event as large as Big Burns Supper without compromising the quality of the festival.”

Customers who have booked tickets will receive letters about their event.

The BBS statement added: “We are hugely grateful to our partners who have been incredibly supportive of this decision, but equally our artists and suppliers who have been working with our team to reschedule our entire festival.

“Thanks to generous support from our colleagues at Dumfries and Galloway Council who have enabled us to activate our Plan B at the Loreburn Hall, which we expect to announce by February. We will be writing to you in the new year to let you know if your show is being rescheduled as part of our summer festival.”
