New head settles in at Annan Academy

A NEW headteacher has taken up the reins at Annan Academy.

Ewan Murray, pictured, is two weeks into his new role and enjoying getting to know the school community.

His career in education started at Dumfries High School as a teacher of physics and biology.

Mr Murray said: “At Dumfries High I was involved in many aspects of whole school leadership, which saw me becoming a principal teacher and eventually acting deputy head teacher.

“I left to take up a role as deputy head teacher in Lornshill Academy, where I have worked since. In my time there I took on all roles of senior management as well as leading authority-wide and national initiatives relating to my remit.

“My time at Dumfries High School was important for my professional development, enabling me to develop key principles that I still hold. My core values are inclusion, integrity, honesty and respect, which align with the values of Annan Academy. Staying true to these values has allowed me to successfully lead improvements in all areas across education, including improving the attainment and destination of learners, reducing exclusions, and improving attendance.

“I’m delighted to be returning to Dumfries and Galloway to work with the community of Annan Academy to ensure the continued improvement of the school towards excellence.”
