Ribbon cut on new Eastriggs service centre

A CUSTOMER services facility has been officially opened in Eastriggs — bringing together a range of services under one roof.

On Tuesday, vice chairman of the council’s communities committee Councillor John Martin cut the ribbon on the facility at Eastriggs Library — which has been refurbished, expanded, and now also features customer and registration services.
Councillor Martin said: “The work that’s been carried out in here has made a real difference.
“The library has been increased and offers a wide choice of books for people of all ages.”
He added: “It was good to see the schoolchildren in the facility and I hope they can make good use of the upgraded library area.
“I am confident the other services available in the centre will also be of benefit to the residents of Eastriggs and the surrounding area.”
The library, within the school complex, closed on October 28 for a month to allow the works, with a mobile library having served in the interim.
Annandale South councillor Sean Marshall, who lives in Eastriggs, said: “We’ve got an improved facility in Eastriggs that’s come out of the budget cut, because we never a customer service centre before.
“So as well as the library that’s been extended, with a separate entrance to the public, and will be open up to potentially 20 hours, the good thing is that there’s an interview room so a lot of the services such as social services, housing and police can use that — and it’ll spare particularly elderly people doing things they would normally do at the customer services centre in Annan.”
