YOUNG treasure hunters are being invited by Dumfries and Galloway museums to discover hidden objects as the school summer holidays are in full swing.

They are being encouraged to visit museums across the region to find the treasure, with a total of six museums involved in the summer event.

Museums taking part in the treasure hunt include Robert Burns House, Robert Burns Centre, The Old Bridge House, Dumfries Museum, Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum and Annan Museum.

Chairman of the education, skills and community well-being committee, councillor Tracey Little, said: “The goal is to get young people visiting their local museums during the school summer holidays.”

Participants will be challenged to find a star object from the museum collection and count the missing gem- stones hidden in the building. Following this task, visitors
will receive a special prize. “Last year’s museum passport was a great success and we hope even more people take part in this summer’s treasure hunt,” councillor

Little added.
Vice chairman of the committee, councillor George Jamieson, said: “We are fortunate to have such great free to visit museums on our door- step and this should get even more people visiting!”

Several thousand treasure maps have been delivered to local schools; visitors can col- lect one from any of the participating museums.

Robert Burns House, Robert Burns Centre, The Old Bridge House and Dumfries Museum are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
