Mum charged with child neglect

A MOTHER has been accused in court of causing unnecessary suffering or injury to health of her three young children by causing them to live in a house at Castle Douglas which was cluttered and unclean with exposed litter trays, cigarette ash and other debris on the floors.

The woman, aged 28, who cannot be named for legal reasons, yesterday pleaded not guilty to neglecting the children, all aged under ten, by committing the offences on December 2.
She is also accused of using heaters without guards and unusable bedding with sharp and dangeorous edges being exposed, as well as allowing the youngest child to run around the house unclothed and unwashed.
Trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court has been set for June.
