MSP makes investment call after 60 job losses

A REGIONAL politician is calling on private and public sector businesses to urgently invest in creating more jobs for the local area.

The plea from Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray comes as MyFresh announced it is to close its Gretna factory with immediate effect — with the loss of 60 jobs.

Upon hearing the news yesterday, Dr Murray said: “This is absolutely devastating news for the 60 employees at MyFreshGretna and their families.

“I’m sure the company has exhausted every avenue in an attempt to save this site, and it is my hope that they are sincere in their intentions to aid colleagues with finding alternative employment.”

She added: “Sadly we seem to have become more accustomed to job losses rather than job creation in our region.

“Our local area and our local people are bursting with potential, and all we require is investment from the private and public sectors in order to unlock that potential and create the jobs which Dumfriesshire so desperately needs.”
