More deaths hit region

FOUR people died as a result of covid in Dumfries and Galloway last week.

And it followed on from two fatalities the week before, at the end of August.

It brings the total of deaths from the virus locally this year to 99.

Meanwhile, new statistics from the National Records of Scotland show that the region experienced 173 deaths overall linked to coronavirus between March 1 2020, when the outbreak started in the UK, to August 31 2021.

Of those, 92 were men and 81 were females and in 159 instances, covid was the underlying cause of death.
