Car found in hunt for missing man

SEARCHES are taking place today after an elderly man went missing from the region.

Thomas McKee, 71, was last seen about 2.30pm yesterday (Thurs) on Main Street, Newton Stewart. His current whereabouts are unknown.

But concern increased this morning after his green coloured Skoda Fabia, registration mark SA69 EEV, was found three miles from Kirkcowan.

Thomas is described as being five foot ten in height, medium build, clean shaven with short thinning grey hair in a comb over pattern. He was last seen wearing a dark blue knitted jumper, shirt, dark corduroy trousers and black shoes.

Chief Inspector Bryan Lee said: ‘This morning we found Thomas’ car three miles from Kirkcowan. We are growing increasingly concerned for Thomas as he has not been seen for a number of hours now.

“Today we will be carrying out searches around the area of Mindork and Kirkcowan and will be assisted by the police helicopter, the dog section and colleagues from Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.

“His family and friends are undoubtedly worried about him and we would ask anyone who may have seen anyone matching Thomas’ description to get in touch with Police Scotland on 101 quoting 2572 of Tuesday 20 November.”
