Man fined after motorhome row

A COURT has heard that a man who keeps his motor home in a Dumfries car park had had the vehicle damaged, the tyres let down and faced calls that he shouldn't be there.

And when Allan Mullaney heard a thump on the motor home late one night at the Brooms Road car park, he went out and found a lump of sandstone lying next to it and gave chase to a man he saw nearby.
He hit the other man on the head with a piece of sandstone knocking him onto the ground. When the victim got up he was struck again before passing police intervened after Mullaney flagged them down himself, telling them: “He threw a brick at my motor home so I hit him with it.”
In the dock at Dumfries Sheriff Court last Thursday, Mullaney admitted the assault on the other man on November 4.
Solicitor Ranald Lindsay said Mullaney had had problems over a period while parking there at an area marked off for overnight lorries and travellers.
The injured man was taken to Dumfries Infirmary with two head injuries and later discharged.
The Sheriff said he noted that it was Mullaney who flagged down the police, but warned him: “You cannot take the law into your own hands.”
He imposed a fined of £200.
