Long covid support group eyes future

A SUPPORT group for sufferers of ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and long covid in Dumfries and Galloway is keen to hear from fellow sufferers about the next steps for the organisation.

Dumfries and Galloway ME Fibromyalgia Network (DGMEFM) has been running for around 40 years, becoming a charity in its own right in 2000, and provides information and support for sufferers across the region.

A recent survey amongst members identified some new projects that are being investigated in more detail.

These include a befriending service for sufferers who are particularly isolated and an ‘expert patient’ mentor scheme, where experienced members would support those who had just been diagnosed.

“We’re keen to hear from people in Dumfries and Galloway who suffer from ME, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and long covid who may not know about the organisation,” said Craig Woods, chairman of DGMEFM Network.

“With an increase in people suffering from long covid symptoms that are similar to ME, we are expecting more people to be getting in touch for help.”

He added: “It’s really important that everything we do comes from the needs of our members so that we’re providing the best support that we can.”

The network has developed a short survey which will help them gather ideas and anyone suffering from one of the conditions mentioned can access it at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ME-CFS-FM-Long-Covid.

There is also a survey for local organisations at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/DGMEFM-partner-survey

Anyone that would like to find out more about the survey and other ways to share their views can check out the group’s Facebook page.
