Lead thieves strike again in Lochmaben

A PRIMARY school has been targeted by metal thieves yet again.

Thieves struck at Lochmaben Primary School and the community centre last weekend, sometime between Friday and Monday.

The same site was reported to have been hit seven times at the end of last year. Previously police voiced concerns that the thefts could be at the hands of local people, as there was no sign of a vehicle being used.

On one occasion backshift officers on patrol in the area disturbed the criminals but, despite their efforts, were unable to detain the person while waiting for back-up.

Police have once again issued a plea to locals to be vigilant and report any unusual activity in the area of the primary school after hours.

PC Lisa Duff said: “Although the cost of the lead is minimal, the cost of the repair work will run into several hundred pounds. I would ask that anyone with information about these thefts or who may have seen something suspicious at either location, contacts police on the 101 number.”

Anyone with information can contact police at Lockerbie by dialling the 101 number.
