Kieran is young race ace

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy from Dumfries is making a stir in go-karting competitions across the country.

And Heathall primary pupil Kieran Conchie, who placed second at the West of Scotland Karting Club Championship in Larkhall on Sunday, is competing with some boys who are two or three years his senior.
Next up for the school-kid is a UK wide Clubman Championship, alongside 23 other racers.
Kieran’s potential was highlighted in his podium finish in Larkhall at the weekend \_ when an early set-back gave the leader a substantial gap, yet Kieran clawed back to finish a mere 0.130 seconds behind.
He said: “I’m really pleased with the weekend’s result and being only our second outing on our new kart I’m delighted at how we have performed with limited test time being on the pace straight out of the box.”
And he credits much of his success to the support from his family, Andrew of Clan Racing for the vital race support and mentoring, Building Craftsmen Dumfries and his supporters on Facebook and Twitter for the words of encouragement.
