Katie crowned best councillor in Scotland

MID Galloway and Wigtown West elected member Katie Hagmann has been named the best councillor in Scotland.

She scooped the top accolade at The Herald Scottish Politician of the Year Awards for her efforts in local politics.

Katie, who has been an SNP councillor locally since 2017, this week said: “I am truly honoured to receive this national award and it means a great deal to me to see the work of local government recognised.

“It’s not an easy job, and I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding work of my fellow councillors in all the work they do for their communities, locally and nationally. We may be of different political persuasions, but we all have the same goal: to serve our communities and achieve the best for our local citizens.

“I genuinely love what I do and have a real sense of achievement when I can make a difference and help people. I hope others, especially women, see the value in standing for elected office and thank my local community for giving me the opportunity to represent them every day.”

Dumfries and Galloway Council say they are delighted to hear about the award and leader Cllr Gail Macgregor said: “I would wish to warmly congratulate Katie on this achievement which recognises the dedication she has given to her role both locally and nationally, I know she has put in a fair shift in the past year.”
