A MAN who was found guilty by a jury of assaulting two of his wives as well as attacking a girlfriend during the last 30 years has been jailed.

Throughout a three day trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court, William Currie, 51, of Municipal Terrace, Dumfries, had maintained pleas of not guilty to the charges which took place between February 1986 and June 2014.
However, he was found guilty of assaulting one wife on various occasions between February 1986 and December that year at Dunlop Road in the town, repeatedly pulling her onto the ground and dragging her along the floor, striking her on the head and throwing warm water at her whilst she was holding a baby.
The jury also found that he seized another wife by the neck, compressing it and causing her to lose consciousness at nearby Mauchline Terrace on an occasion between April 1992 and October that year; and on various occasions between April 2007 and March 2009 at Church Street in the town he assaulted his then girlfriend, threw a hot iron at her, seized her by the neck while she was feeding a baby, compressing her neck and seized her by the arm and dug his nails into her arm.
On Monday, Currie was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
