Homelessness figures

THERE were 910 homeless applications made in Dumfries and Galloway last year.

And it was an increase of nine per cent on the previous year.

Of those, 30 had slept rough locally the night before making their application.

Figures released by the Scottish Government also show that as of March 31 2019, there were 181 households in temporary accommodation in the region and 75 children living in a temporary set up.

Housing Minister Kevin Stewart said: “In a country with some of the strongest rights in the world, it is unacceptable for anyone to find themselves without a home. We want to make sure that anyone facing homelessness is supported into permanent, settled accommodation that meets their needs as quickly as possible.”
