IS THERE a farming hero in Dumfriesshire?

The Great British Farm-Fest is searching for the nation’s Farming Heroes and entries are sought from this region.

The organisers are calling on industry bodies, professionals, and the wider rural community to nominate individuals whose achievements embody the spirit of modern British farming. This could be through advancements in sustainability, exceptional technical skill, crucial community contribution, or remarkable tenacity in overcoming business and environmental adversity.

Each selected Farming Hero will receive complimentary festival access and an invitation to an exclusive Farming Heroes area, where the nominated heroes may meet each other and be celebrated throughout the event.

Nominations are open online now, until 22 April.

Festival director Chris Hughes said: “UK agriculture is underpinned by incredible dedication, but the diverse stories of those working on the ground often go untold. Our Farming Heroes initiative is designed to change that.

“We want to hear about the dairy farmer who innovated to tackle rising costs, the arable farmer protecting the environment, the young farmer taking on a huge challenge, or the seasoned professional passing on vital skills.”
