Hall marks 100 years

A CENTENARY party is taking place this weekend at Eskdalemuir Ex-Servicemen’s Public Hall (ESMP).

The committee and community are marking the anniversary of the hall being gifted by the Duke of Buccleuch to the ex-servicemen of the parish 100 years ago in June 1924.

And they are inviting all locals to attend on Saturday afternoon from 3 pm when there will be a cake cutting, food and disco, with optional fancy dress. Activities will be laid on for children too and informal talks and slideshows are planned throughout the day.

It will be a chance to share memories with the community and the organisers are hoping for a good turnout.

ESMP secretary May Reid said: “During the afternoon we will be burying a time capsule, so bring an item if you wish to put something in.

“We hope as many locals and past residents will come and anyone who has had a connection with the hall over the years, so spread the word.

“We hope to have some photos of years gone by and folk sharing memories of hall events.”

Attendees should take their own drinks but let May know if they require food, by emailing [email protected].
