GREYHOUNDS: Diamond Charlie sparkles at Gretna

THERE was a winning double for owner / trainer Tony Hopper on a fast going Gretna greyhound track on Friday night.

His two-year-old dog Diamond Charlie powered home to take the honours by three lengths in the 7.45 sprint race.

He was followed home by Big Time, a similar aged dog, owned and trained by fellow Cumbrian handler Maurice Lawman.

The next Hopper victory was in the 9.15 race over 470 metres.

His two-year-old bitch Flaming Iris crossed the line as favourite almost three lengths in front of main challenger Rab’s Girl, a three-year-old bitch from Davie Studholm’s Kirkbride kennels.

In the other middle distance trip, outsider Dixie won by a comfortable 6.5 lengths from fancied fellow Scots entry Granny.

Meanwhile, Halcrow Stadium racing director Craig Norman is seeking entries for the forthcoming annual Noggs Memorial Trophy Derby over 470 metres.

The open event features 18 runners and usually attracts a lot of interest from both sides of the border.
