A BORDER football club are hoping the hand of ‘God’ will assist them throughout the current season.

For retired footballer Matt Le Tissier, who is known as ‘Le God’, has joined the Gretna FC 2008 Board.
The 46-year-old, who won eight caps for England and spent his entire professional career with Southampton, agreed to become an honorary board member after hosting coaching sessions with youngsters at Raydale Park this summer.
And the Soccer Saturday presenter, who was the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League, has vowed to help The Black and Whites in whatever way he can.

Delighted to welcome the new addition to the Board, Gretna FC 2008 commercial manager James Rowley said: “Matt and his team, MLT Natural Coaching, came to
Raydale in June and did some coaching with the Youth Academy before guest speaking at our sportsman’s dinner that evening.

“Matt’s philosophy is to encourage youngsters to express themselves when playing football and he was so impressed with the Academy and what we are trying to do that he offered to help in any way he could.
“So when I asked him to become an honorary member of the Board he instantly agreed and is more than happy to put his name to the club.”
Among Le Tissier’s first duties will be to assist in promoting Anton Hodge’s new book ‘In Black & White’, which will be released next month, to his 452,000 Twitter followers.
Meanwhile, Mr Rowley was pleased to report efforts to generate new ideas and sponsorship are also coming to fruition.
He added: “I joined the club originally to build and manage the website but was invited onto the Board by former chairman Craig Williamson, which I duly accepted.
“My task is to help generate much-needed funds to the club by introducing new ideas and sponsors, to which we are now succeeding in doing, so we hope to be able to take the club forward with the budgets available to us.”
