Grant to secure historic kirk roof

URGENT roof repairs are to be carried out to one of the oldest buildings in south west Scotland after being awarded a £66,000 grant.

Ruthwell Church, a narrow Medieval Church, still in regular public use which dates back to the 14th century.
Cummertrees, Mouswald and Ruthwell congregation successfully applied through the Government-funded Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund.
Session Clerk Susan Broatch said: “Our roof repair project will stop water ingress, address key roof issues and ensure Ruthwell Church is in a watertight condition.
“This will ensure the kirk is able to fulfill its many roles in the community and will continue to protect the irreplaceable Ruthwell Cross for generations to come.”
