Going quackers for duck race

MOFFATONIANS are set to go ‘quackers’ today at the annual duck race.

The popular Fun Day and Great Moffat Duck Race at Station Park Moffat take places today from 12 pm.

Organisers, Moffat Promotions Group, are expecting a strong turnout for the family event, which includes free family orienteering, lots of fun on the water, facepainting, children’s rides and stalls.

The day kicks off with Moffat Carriages providing rides for children in their mini Victorian carriage. Meanwhile, jazz trio -the Ragtime Rascals- will be putting their own special brand of fun into the Fun Day from 1 pm.

Moffat Promotions Group member Sarah Ottewell said: “The day’s crowning glory as always is the world famous Great Moffat Duck Race at 3 pm.

“People can buy lots of ducks for their bucks, from several outlets in the town in advance, and on the day itself in Station Park, at Duck HQ.

“Look out for the Daffy the Moffat Drake, and his new friend Daisy the Moffat Duck, paddling around town over the weekend.

“High five them wherever you meet them, they can’t wait to make new friends.”

Ducks cost just £1 and cash prizes are up for grabs for the first three winners.

Sarah added: “All 700 numbered ducks dive and paddle like mad to get from the Little Annan Water into Station Park itself.

“It’s some spectacle when they’re all trying to reach the finishing line at once.”
