Global role for Anthony
NEWTON Stewart native Anthony Heron has praised his Galloway up-bringing as he takes on a new role at an international think tank.
Anthony has been appointed interim editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief of The Arctic Institute, a leading Washington DC-based think tank focused on Arctic security and policy.
In his new post, the former Douglas Ewart High School student takes on a senior editorial role overseeing global research and publications on the rapidly changing High North.
Anthony’s research interests include Arctic geopolitics, maritime security, and the evolving role of Scotland in northern regional affairs.
After completing his studies in Edinburgh and working as a journalist, Anthony moved to London to work as a parliamentary assistant.
He draws on his Galloway upbringing as part of his approach to global policy work and commented: “I’m incredibly proud to take on this role.
“Growing up around fishing communities in Galloway taught me a lot about resilience, remoteness, and the challenges coastal places face. Whether it’s a Scottish village or an Arctic settlement, these experiences shape how I think about the world- and I’m proud to bring that perspective to an international stage.”
