COMMUNITIES across Dumfries and Galloway are being encouraged to apply for funding for tree planting projects. SP Energy Networks have teamed up with the The Tree Councilh, the charity that works together for the love of trees, to created SP Energy Networks Community Tree Planting Fund. It will provide £500,000 of grant-funding for planting projects to help reduce and offset its carbon footprint and support its efforts to become a fully sustainable networks business. Applications for grants of between £2500-£10,000 are now open for the 2025/26 tree-planting season, which runs from November 2025 until March 2026. Applications can be submitted by local authorities, charities, community groups, schools and educational establishments, and individual landowners. Proposed projects should focus on planting in areas such as parks, schools and community spaces, while hedgerow planting, community orchards and other urban planting schemes will also be supported. Aileen Rourke, SPEN’s Scotland distribution director, said: “Our partnership with The Tree Council is a brilliant way to help our communities go greener, embrace nature and do their bit to tackle climate change. Creating green spaces also helps enhance the local landscape, especially in busy urban areas, and will deliver a living legacy that will last for years to come.”
