Gala makes call for new faces

DWINDLING Lochmaben Children’s Gala Committee are appealing to fill three vital roles to make sure next year’s gala goes ahead.

The local group are hosting their AGM tonight and need a new chairperson, secretary and treasurer to keep the committee alive, as well as a host of other helpers.

Chairwoman Georgia Bell is stepping down from her role after several years in the hot seat as are the current secretary and treasurer.

Under Georgia and her committee’s reign the children’s gala has flourished with the re-introduction of favourites such as the ball and pet show, but now she is appealing for new members to come onboard with fresh ideas for future galas.

She said: “I have been the gala chairperson for years and have enjoyed this experience very much. “I have now stepped down to allow somebody to bring new ideas to Lochmaben Gala allowing it to continue to be the great success that it is.

“Being part of the committee, in particular the chair, is an extremely satisfying and rewarding post, especially to see the delight on the children’s and adults’ faces on Gala Day and the week in the run-up.”

The committee need to find three new officer bearers and are hosting a meeting tonight to drum up support. Georgia said: “I, along with the rest of the community, will be devastated if our town cannot findanew chairperson.

“And I really can not stress enough just how much joy this role has brought to me over the last few years and really encourage people to get involved.”

The gala AGM takes place tonight at 7 pm at the portable building on the school grounds at 7 pm. High on the agenda will be the task of filling the three office bearer roles.

Anyone interested in joining the committee is urged to attend tonight’s meeting.
