Gala chair bows out

A STALWART of Lockerbie Gala and Riding of the Marches is stepping down.

Ian McLatchie has been chairman for the last 14 years but is calling it a day, saying “the time is personally right for me”.

He announced his departure at the Beating of the Retreat on Saturday evening and received applause and plaudits for his efforts at the helm.

Ian said: “To serve as chairman over the last 14 years has been a privilege and an honour.

“Every year has brought new challenges, but it’s also brought new friendships. No matter the weather, year after year, the townspeople of Lockerbie come together for a day of celebration – and it’s a community like no other.

“I’d like to thank all of the committee members who have supported me during my tenure and wish them all the best of luck moving forward – and, of course, I’ll still be around to lend a hand when required.

“Forward Lockerbie.”
