Fun planned for town’s 70th gala today

EXCITEMENT is building for the 70th Lochmaben Children’s Gala today.

After a busy week of gala events, the parade floats are now preened to perfection and ready to glide down the High Street from 11.45 am.

The fancy dress judging takes place at 10.30 am opposite Lochmaben Golf Club on Castlehill Gate and will be followed by the vehicle judging at 11 am.

Gala chairwoman Georgia Bell, on behalf of her committee, said: “We are looking forward to celebrating Lochmaben’s 70th gala day and we are hoping for the sun to return.

“Lots of exciting events are planned for children to enjoy throughout the day and I hope the community will turn out to support their local gala and enjoy the celebrations.”

The afternoon, from 2 pm, will see a host of fun and games on the school playing field including be sports, Daffy Dill, face painting, bump and jump, rodeo bull, a raffle and free ice cream for children will also be available from the field.

The day of traditions will be brought to a close with Beat the Retreat at Lochmaben Community Centre car park at 7.30 pm.

DNG Media photographer Steve Matthew and reporter Amanda Kennedy will be on hand to capture the day’s festivities – keep an eye on this website for new photos and see next Thursday’s Annandale Herald and Moffat News for the full report.
