Forever homes sought for guinea pig pairs

A GUINEA pig foster carer is looking for more people in Dumfriesshire to give new homes to the pets.

Susan Brown, who lives in Waterbeck, has been involved with the Forever Friends Small Animal Sanctuary, based in Maryport, for two years and has personally adopted 20 guinea pigs and chinchillas from there. And she started fostering as well about a year ago. She said: “We decided to foster and give lots more a second chance at their forever homes rather than continuing to adopt.

“I think in total we will have fostered and rehomed around 100, as well as the occasional hamster and rabbit.

“I am the main foster carer for the rescue and travel up and down the country to rescue them.”

Susan also uses her own guinea pigs for animal therapy with young people. She said: “Guinea pigs are loyal, they help overcome anxiety and loneliness.”

To discuss adoption, contact Susan via the Forever Friends Small Animal Sanctuary Facebook page. All the guinea pigs are in bonded pairs and are indoor pets. An adoption fee applies.
