RESIDENTS in the Beattock and Moffat areas are being invited to give their view on the development of local forests. Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is carrying out a consultation on how it intends to manage woodland in the area over the next ten years (2026-36). Their Beattock Land Management Plan covers 3672 hectares of forest above the M74 corridor that includes Greskine, Rivox, Longbedholm, Earshaigs and Blacklaw forest blocks. FLS planning forester John Ogilvie, said: “The area is largely coniferous upland plantation forest and timber production will continue to be a main feature of how we manage this land. “However, there are many other factors to take into consideration when we develop or update our management plans. These range from recreation and public access, wildlife and conservation, the landscape, water quality, forest operations, tree species choice and even heritage features. “That’s why it’s important that the local community and external stakeholders have a chance to give their views and feedback.” Anyone looking to take part can find a short questionnaire on the FLS website.
