Flyde sign up Dobbie

FORMER Queens captain and striker Stephen Dobbie has penned a deal with English National League North side AFC Fylde.

There had been concerns amongst the Queens faithful that the 38-year-old would reunite with Ian McCall at Championship rivals Partick Thistle.

But, thankfully, Dobbie opted to sign for Jim Bentley’s Fylde side and admitted the opportunity to play and coach was too good to turn down.

Dobbie – who lives in Lytham – said: “The chance to coach as well as play was massive, so that ticked all the boxes as well as allowing me to remain at home.

“First and foremost, I’ll be a player but I’ll be taking the under-18s team. Coaching is something I’ve always wanted to do because I want to give back the experience I’ve had all through my career to help the kids progress.

“I’m still happy to play just now. I’ve obviously got ambitions in terms of where I want to go in the coaching game.”
