Flood warning for Whitesands

A FLOOD warning has been issued for Whitesands in Dumfries.

Police Scotland have highlighted an alert from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) which follows heavy rainfall on the morning of Christmas Eve.
The warning states that the River Nith upstream of Thornhill reached its warning threshold and flooding of the Whitesands west car park was predicted to start from around midday today.
However, the extent of the predicted flooding is not known and updates will be made as new information becomes available.
The SEPA statement said: “Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.
“Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.
“This flood warning is now in force until further notice and was sent by phone and sms free of charge to registered customers of our Floodline direct warning service.
“If you haven’t already signed up to receive free flood messages, please call Floodline or register online at sepa.org.uk/floodingsignup.”
