Five hospitalised after crash

A WOMAN was taken to hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries after a crash on the A74(M) yesterday.

The 60-year-old was the driver of a red Kia Rio which left the motorway between junctions 15 and 15 near Beattock at about 4.45 pm.

Police have described it as a ‘serious crash’ and are appealing for information.

Another woman, aged 24, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with a serious injury, while a 46-year-old man was hospitalised too, needing observation. In addition, a young boy and girl were taken to the infirmary as a precaution.

Emergency services attended the incident and the road was closed in both directions. The northbound carriageway was closed for 2.5 hours and the southbound carriageway for three hours.

Commenting, road policing sergeant Lloyd Caven said: “We are appealing to anyone with information, particularly if you have dash-cam footage, to get in touch. If you can help please call us on 101, quoting incident number 2468 of Wednesday, 20 October.”
