First Minister praises firm

AN Annan business has been praised by Scotland’s First Minister for their work to provide over one million face visors to the NHS.

Alpha Solway, who manufacture personal protective equipment at their factory in Queensberry Street, are working flat out to produce 20,000 visors every day, each bearing a personal message of thanks for the NHS.

And in a speech last Friday Nicola Sturgeon said the firm was playing a “critical part” in the fight against coronavirus.

She said: “About a month ago we put out a call to action to Scotland’s businesses. We asked them to support the flow of supplies and equipment to our health and social care sector. To date, more than 1600 businesses and individuals have answered that call. And I want to thank each and every one of them.

“Our work with Calachem – a company based in Grangemouth – is a good example. Calachem have now produced 20,000 litres of hand sanitiser. “Another example is work we are doing with the firm Alpha Solway. They’re producing 20,000 face visors every day from their factory in Annan, and in total they’re supplying an order of over a million visors to our NHS. “These companies and many more in addition to the ones I’ve mentioned today are playing a critical part in our overall collective national endeavour in Scotland to tackle this crisis and I want to put on record today my heartfelt thanks to each and every one.”
