Final Helen Jones scholar revealed

A STRANRAER Academy student has been selected as the tenth and final recipient of the Helen Jones Scholarship.

Timen Siret will be financially supported in his studies by the scholarship which commemorates former Lockerbie Academy student Helen Jones who was killed in the 2005 London Bombings.
The scholarship is issued by ICAS, the leading professional body of accountants, on behalf of the family of Helen Jones and the Scottish Accountancy Trust for Education and Research (SATER).
Timen, who is due to study business and economics at the University of Glasgow, is the final recipient of the award, which was established in memory of Helen, 28, an ICAS Chartered Accountant.
Helen’s mother, Liz Staffell, established the Helen Jones Appeal Fund in 2005, with support from family, friends and ICAS to provide an annual scholarship for students in the Dumfries and Galloway area seeking to study accountancy, finance or management.
Following the presentation of the award she said: “This scholarship has enabled young people to spread their wings and experience a life in the wider world which is what Helen and her sister wanted to do.
“It’s been a wonderful ten years and I’m really delighted with the scholars we’ve been able to support. They are all doing so well.”
Eighteen-year-old Timen said he was thrilled to receive the award.
