Farm leaders welcome Tracey

A WARM welcome has been given to the NFUS’ new regional manager for Dumfries and Galloway.

As we reported recently, Tracey Roan has been appointed to the team covering the area.

She has a degree in rural recreation and tourism and farms 240 pedigree Holstein cows with husband Steven near Dalbeattie.

Tracey joins NFU Scotland from Scottish Land and Estates where she worked as a regional support officer. Prior to this she spent ten years working as a housing officer for a local housing association before returning to the farm full time in 2015 to manage the PR side of business when the family diversified into selling their milk direct. The family has also appeared on the BBC’s This Farming Life which led to various public speaking opportunities at events throughout Scotland.

Discussing her new role, Tracey said: “From my time as a board member of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership and having worked for Scottish Land and Estates, I have gained extensive knowledge of the diversity of Dumfries and Galloway, and the challenges facing the rural sector.

“I am really pleased to have joined the NFU Scotland team, and with the return of the local shows I am looking forward to meeting as many members as possible face-to-face over the summer.”

Welcoming her, NFU Scotland’s national operations manager James Buchanan said: “Tracey is well known in the area and had been an active member of the Union prior to joining the team. I hope the membership take the opportunity to introduce themselves to Tracey over the summer months at the shows and other events.”

And regional chair Colin Ferguson added: “I am delighted to welcome Tracey into the NFUS team in Dumfries and Galloway. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge, as well as first-hand experience of farming in our region. At a time with big changes coming for our members, they should be reassured that their Union is strong and well placed to guide and support them.”
