Fan spruces up Palmerston

A DIE-HARD Queen of the South supporter has been hailed after he gave up his time to help clean up outside Palmerston Park.

It came after some Queens fans raised concerns about the surroundings of the stadium and reports that on Saturday, a man slipped on wet leaves outside the Portland Drive turnstiles.

This prompted QoS mega fan Iain Wright to go along to Palmy for a couple of hours to spruce up the area.

He told the Dumfries Courier: “I went across to Palmerston to help as I read on the Doonhamers Chat Facebook page that a couple of supporters had complained about the wet leaves outside the turnstiles and wanted to help the club as I know they’ve limited resources.

“Some might say I’m mad but at the end of the day this is our football club.”

Iain has since posted several before and after pics online and has been praised by his fellow Doonhamers.

Now Iain – who is a former Queens supporters liaison officer – hopes he can organise an army of troops to regularly clean up around the ground.

He said: “I posted a few before and after photos online. The reaction has been unbelievable.

“I’ve had a few supporters saying they’ll gladly help with anything on a regular basis if asked.

“Supporters could perhaps meet once a month and help with any small job in and around the ground rather than the yearly tidy up.

“I don’t mind helping out when I’ve spare time. Thank you to the people who already help out throughout the year.”

Queen of the South were contacted for comment.
