Extent of hospital waiting times revealed

DETAILED information has been given about the lengths of time patients are waiting to be seen at NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

The figures were included in the papers for Monday’s meeting of the health board. And they revealed:

  • Treatment time guarantee: the number of people seen (594) was below the locally set trajectory (632).
  • The number on the waiting list has increased over the last three months from 4880 to 4955.
  • The number of people seen for new outpatient appointments was 2545, below the 3152 target.
  • The number of people on the outpatient waiting list sits at 12,798.
  • The waiting list for a diagnostic scope appointment was 533 at the end of February.
  • The waiting list to be seen by an Allied Health Professional for musculoskeletal issues was 1050 people in February.
  • Cancer waiting times: the 31 day standard was met 92 per cent of the time and 88 per cent of the time for the 62 day standard.
  • In January 2024, 243 people were seen for psychological therapy compared to the ambition to see 107 people. The waiting list is 883 people.
  • Emergency Department: 3779 attendances in February (higher than the pre-pandemic average of 3508.) The four hour waiting standard was met 79 per cent of the time.
  • In February, 88 people waited over 12 hours for the end of their ED attendance.
  • There were less emergency admissions than predicted in February 2024, with 1406 against a prediction of 1500.
  • In January, 10.8 per cent of planned operations were cancelled.
