Double farm fire callout
FIRE crews were busy this week tackling two blazes at farms in Annandale.
They were called out just before 5 pm on Sunday to tyres on fire at Nutholm Farm, Kettleholm.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.53 pm on Sunday, to reports of a fire in the open at Nutholm Farm.
“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished tyres on fire.
C”rews left the scene around 6.49 pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
The second callout was on Tuesday morning to Mouswald Bank Farm at Collin and involved scrap vehicles.
The service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 10.24 am to reports of a fire in the open at Mouswald Bank Farm.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene and firefighters for a number of scrap vehicles on fire.
“Crews left the scene at 1.03 pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Meanwhile, a ‘very high’ wildfire warning for Southern Scotland expires today.
It was initially issued for the area by the SFRS last Wednesday and extended after large blazes in the Cairngorms and Edinburgh.
