Czech mate for Liam

A DUMFRIES golfer put in a tee-rific display in Prague by achieving the best result of his career at the Czech Masters.

Liam Johnston, 26, managed to finish tied for fifth place as the European Tour season visited Albatross Golf Club. Johnston shined in the Czech capital by claiming a final score of 70 to go alongside his 67, 69 and 68, which gave him an overall 14 under par for this event. This performance will have delighted the 26-year-old as he finished ahead of high profile players such as Edoardo Molinari by three shots and scooped € 30,960.

A major result of this kind will be very much welcomed by Liam to retain his playing card for the European Tour next season. Currently ranked 143 in the standings with 212.6 points, placing him above 2011 Masters winner South African Charl Schwartzel for the Race to Dubai competition, the top 110 players automatically preserving playing privileges. The Dumfries and County player will be back in action this week when participating in the Scandinavian Masters as the tour travels to Sweden. Only 14 events remain for Liam in his maiden European Tour and he sits only 99 points outside of the top 110 before the season concludes in November.
