Award-winning storytellers Mostly Ghostly Tours are seeking interest from individuals or groups with the necessary skills to create a costume for their Croc in the Frock tours.
It will be an interactive, family-friendly experience weaving together Dumfries’ literary connections into two walking tours.
And it promises to be a fabulous feast of ghosts, history, adventure and folklore,
At the heart of it will be the Croc, inspired by the famous crocodile in Peter Pan, who will sport an outfit featuring elements of Dumfries’ stories, all designed by children and young people. A local artist will work her magic on the frock element, customising it with a patchwork of pictures, displaying books, people or places connected with Dumfries writers and their subjects.
Mostly Ghostly founder, Kathleen Cronie said: “We’re incredibly excited to be working with our friends at Wigtown Book Festival on this innovative and fun-filled venture. One of our team members will take on the role of Croc in the Frock – a ‘snappy’ name and fantastic ‘hook’!
“The Croc, bedecked in a quirky outfit, will be a bold, larger than life character, who accompanied by pirate minions, will present stories of Dumfries’ literary connections to children, families and the young at heart.
“We are seeking a designer, with a flair for theatricality, to help bring alive our fabulous Croc! The costume needs to be an all-weather, comfortable and durable creation with masses of character, and of course, a big toothy grin!”
The team will also be inviting children locally to don their creative hats and draw, paint or sketch a design and Mostly Ghostly member John Hill said: “We can’t wait to see the children’s designs and it’ll be a real challenge to choose the winning submissions. The legacy of this, is that the pictures will form part of the Croc’s outfit, giving children a valued role in developing this vibrant, eye-catching character.”
Last year Mostly Ghostly were announced as one of nine Dumfries and Galloway projects and businesses chosen to take part in Wigtown Festival Company’s Spot-lit Literary Tourism Product Innovation Programme.
Kathleen added: “To have been awarded support to develop our Croc tours, both in terms of financial investment and business support, is just the best news, and has proved a hugely positive focus throughout the challenges of the past year.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a local maker, and to showcase their talents in a very visible role. We welcome enquiries from across the region – are you that person?”
